Power Minister Tegbe Launches Task Force to Combat Grid Infrastructure Attacks

Joseph Tegbe has established a ministerial committee with security and power sector officials to stop repeated vandalism damaging Nigeria's electricity network.
Nigeria's Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has created a high-level committee aimed at stopping attacks on power infrastructure across the country. The taskforce brings together security agencies and officials from the electricity sector to develop joint strategies for protecting generation, transmission and distribution assets from theft and sabotage.
The initiative follows a pattern of recurring incidents in which vandals target power facilities, disrupting electricity supply to households, businesses and industrial operations. Each attack requires expensive repairs, draining government resources that could be directed elsewhere.
The committee's formation signals an attempt to move beyond reactive responses to repair damage and toward preventive action. During its inaugural meeting, the committee discussed multiple approaches to the problem.
These include stricter enforcement of existing laws against vandalism, deployment of security technology at critical installations and public awareness efforts to deter attacks. The scope of the committee's work extends across all segments of Nigeria's electricity infrastructure, from power plants to distribution networks serving consumers.
The establishment of this coordinated response reflects acknowledgment within government that vandalism remains a persistent threat to grid stability and electricity access. By convening representatives from both security services and the power sector in one forum, officials aim to eliminate gaps in communication and coordination that may have hindered previous efforts to protect assets.
