Nigeria's Innovation Hubs Face Power and Internet Challenges

A report presented by Hanson Johnson, Chairman of the Innov Support Network, in Abuja reveals that power outages and poor internet connectivity are significant threats to Nigeria's innovation hubs. These hubs are crucial for driving entrepreneurship, skill development, and job creation across the country.

The report emphasizes the necessity for stronger policy support to maximize their impact. Despite the enactment of the Nigeria Startup Act, limitations at the state level hinder opportunities for innovation.

The report indicates that 70% of innovation hubs operate on modest budgets, with annual revenues falling below 50,000 Naira. Additionally, 60% of these hubs face unstable internet connections, exacerbating operational challenges.

The study surveyed 190 active innovation hubs, with Lagos accounting for 32% and Abuja 16% of the total. The report also highlights that 90% of hubs offer structured training programs, primarily benefiting startups, entrepreneurs, and youth.
