Tinubu's Working Leave Extended; Return Scheduled Soon

The Presidency announced on Monday that President Bola Tinubu's three-week working leave has been extended by one week, with his return to Nigeria expected at the weekend. Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for London, where he began his working vacation.

After a week in London, he traveled to Paris, France, to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bollore, whose media group includes Canal+, Multichoice, and Universal Music Group. Throughout his vacation, Tinubu has remained engaged with national matters, including directing an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna, following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has been representing him at official functions, while Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, continues to represent the President at events. The Presidency dismissed claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a U.S.-based lobbying firm regarding Tinubu's absence from the United Nations General Assembly as irresponsible.
