Tinubu Establishes National Health Technology Office

On June 26, 2026, President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office (NHTDAO) and appointed Dr. Obi Adigwe as the National Coordinator.

The NHTDAO will be located within the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and will serve as a meta-level national platform to coordinate Nigeria's digital health agenda. This initiative aims to reinforce, not replace, existing statutory functions of relevant departments and agencies, while harmonizing and empowering public and private institutions across the health system.

The office is expected to set standards and connect operational aspects of the national digital health architecture. Dr.

Adigwe, who is also the Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, will leverage science and technology to coordinate major projects, including a $300 million nanotechnology grant and an 18 million Euro grant. The office's steering committee will include notable figures such as Professor Muhammad Ali Pate and Mr.

Olaniyi Yusuf, among others.
