Pro Ref Admits VAR Error in Haaland's Derby Goal

Pro Ref has acknowledged an “error of judgement” concerning Erling Haaland’s winning goal in Manchester City's 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Haaland scored in the 60th minute after City played over an hour with 10 men due to Phil Foden's red card for kicking Bruno Fernandes.

The goal was initially ruled offside but was overturned by VAR, which determined that Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu had played Haaland onside. However, City midfielder Enzo Fernandez was in an offside position and appeared to interfere with play.

Pro Ref stated that VAR should have instructed referee Michael Oliver to review the incident. They contacted Manchester United to acknowledge the error and confirmed a review of the incident would take place.

City manager Enzo Maresca accepted Foden's red card but argued that Fernandes should also have received a red card for his involvement in the incident.
