PTDF Reviews Five Energy Research Projects for Innovation

On Wednesday, the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) reviewed five cutting-edge energy research projects at its headquarters in Abuja. The review, led by Executive Secretary Ahm Aminu, is part of a rigorous peer review process aimed at selecting projects for the annual oil and gas research grant program.

The projects include a drone-powered pipeline surveillance system, carbon nanotube-enhanced solar cells, and bioenergy from non-edible oil seeds. These initiatives reflect a strategic shift towards sustainable energy solutions and cost-efficient hydrocarbon products.

The PTDF aims to acquire intellectual property rights for these innovations to facilitate commercialization. Aminu noted that the fund has established processes for patent registration and urged stakeholders to support research initiatives.

Prof. Oluley Ayodeji emphasized the importance of strengthening industry-research linkages, while Sonni Echono reiterated the need for collaboration to enhance Nigeria's research ecosystem.

The PTDF's efforts align with its mandate to build indigenous technological capacity in Nigeria's oil and gas industry.
