Real Madrid Begins Presidential Election Process for 2025

Real Madrid officially commenced its presidential election process, as announced by current president Florentino Perez. The election will have a 10-day window for candidacy submissions, running until May 23.

Candidates must be club members for at least 20 years and provide a guarantee of €187 million (approximately $219 million), equivalent to 15% of the club's annual budget. Perez, who was re-elected unopposed in January 2025 for a four-year term, confirmed his intention to run again during a press conference.

Spanish media reported that Enrique Riquelme, president of the water and energy group Cox, is considering entering the race. Perez, who first became president in 2000 and oversaw the club's Galactico era, has retained his position through elections in 2013, 2017, 2021, and is now preparing for the 2025 election.

The date and place for the elections will be announced by the electoral board.
