Lagos Renters Exploited by Agents Despite Government Interventions

The Lagos State government has implemented interventions such as the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (LagosHOM) and the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) to protect tenants from exploitation by agents. However, renters continue to suffer as agents flout laws limiting legal fees to 10% of annual rent.

Many tenants, like Chidi Samuel and Kingsley Chinwendu, are being charged exorbitant fees, exacerbating the housing crisis in Lagos due to weak enforcement of existing legislation.
