Nigerian Reps Call for Forensic Audit of NMDPRA Over Fund Misappropriation

The Nigerian House of Representatives has raised concerns over the alleged mismanagement and misappropriation of funds by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Bamidele Salam, directed the adoption of a motion for a forensic audit of the funds.

The audit is in response to violations of the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021, particularly in the utilization of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Development Fund. Hon.

Cyriacus Umeh sponsored the motion, highlighting discrepancies in fund collection and utilization. The NMDPRA's failure to respond to requests for information and explanations has raised suspicions of financial irregularities.
