Nigerian House Passes Bill to Establish Police Pension Board

The Nigerian House of Representatives passed a bill titled "Bill to Establish Nigeria Police Force Pension Board" to create a distinct pension structure for police personnel, exempting them from the contributory pension scheme under the Pension Reform Act 2014. The bill aims to address long-standing complaints of delayed and unfair pension payments for retired police officers.

Sponsored by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, the bill received support from key stakeholders like the Pension Commission (PenCom). Once transmitted to the Senate and assented by President Bola Tinubu, it will become law.
