Ramaphosa Urges Immigrants to Respect South African Laws

In a recent address, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa called on immigrants, particularly Nigerians, to respect the country's laws and traditions, amid a backdrop of renewed anti-foreign tensions. Ramaphosa emphasized South Africa's commitment to global cooperation and human rights while urging citizens to trust the legal system in dealing with illegal immigration.

He stated that international law is essential for maintaining global order and should be respected by all nations. The comments come as protests and violence targeting foreign nationals have been reported in cities like Durban, Cape Town, and East London.

In response, Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, Alex Ajayi, sought to calm fears, insisting that Nigerians are not coordinating attacks and that the situation is under control. He advised Nigerians to exercise caution and avoid confrontations, while the Nigerian Diaspora Commission issued safety advisories for Nigerians living in South Africa, urging them to abide by local laws and monitor local media for updates.
