Police and School Deny Cover-Up in Toddler's Death

Winni Akeku, a two-year-old girl, died on March 17 after a bookshelf allegedly fell on her in a classroom at Wisdom Gate International School, located in Obio Akpor Local Government Area. Her father, Iasuaka Akeku, reported that the school moved her to two different hospitals after the incident and attempted to clean the scene.

A verbal report from a pathologist indicated that Winni suffered a significant skull fracture that led to hemorrhaging and ultimately her death. The family has accused the school of trying to cover up the incident and pressuring them to settle quietly.

Grace Iring Koko, a spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed that the police cannot withhold the autopsy report, which is a public document, and stated that the investigation is ongoing. The family is seeking justice and clarity regarding the circumstances of Winni's death, expressing confusion over conflicting accounts of the incident.
