Romania Introduces Black Card to Combat Youth Football Misconduct

The Romanian Football Federation has implemented a black card in youth football, marking its first introduction in European football as a disciplinary measure against inappropriate behavior from parents and spectators. This regulation, sanctioned by the federation's emergency committee on September 11, aims to protect children aged 7 to 16 from the pressures and mistreatment they may face during matches.

The black card signifies the definitive cessation of a match due to improper conduct, serving as a clear visual indication for referees. The process for issuing a black card involves several stages, starting with an initial warning, followed by a temporary match suspension if misconduct continues.

If inappropriate behavior persists after the match resumes, a black card is issued, permanently halting the match. The federation emphasizes that football should remain a source of joy for children, and the new measure is part of their commitment to addressing harassment in youth football.
