Ruto Accelerates Dangote's Lamu Refinery Project Plans

Kenyan President William Ruto announced that his government is fast-tracking administrative processes for the proposed Dangote refinery in Lamu, Kenya. This announcement came during Ruto's visit to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Lagos, ahead of the September 30 groundbreaking ceremony for the refinery, which is set to have a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day.

Ruto confirmed that the land for the project has been secured and emphasized the government's commitment to eliminating bureaucratic delays to ensure timely construction and operations. Aliko Dangote stated that the new facility would be larger than the existing Nigerian plant and would include a power plant with a 1,000-megawatt capacity, as well as a million-tonne polypropylene plant.

The refinery is expected to stimulate industrial activities in East Africa, create jobs, and enhance the region's workforce skills. Dangote noted that the Lamu project would also feature additional processing facilities tailored to local crude oil and product requirements.
