Nigeria's persistently fragile economic and security environment, widespread insecurity, deepening poverty, and ongoing policy reforms contribute to the high risk rating. The report suggests that fiscal tightening and renewed investor engagement could help stabilize the macroeconomic fundamentals in the medium term.

Other African countries like Congo Brazzaville, Chad, and Zambia are also highlighted for their improved rankings. Nigeria ranks 116th in the 2025 Chandler Good Governance Index.
