Scott McTominay to Undergo Heart Surgery, Out for Matches

Scott McTominay, a midfielder for Napoli, has been diagnosed with a mild, benign heart rhythm disorder and will undergo a pulsed field ablation (PFA) procedure in the coming days. Napoli confirmed this diagnosis on September 1, stating that the 29-year-old Scotland international developed an irregular heartbeat.

McTominay is expected to be sidelined until after the next international break, missing both his club's matches and Scotland's upcoming fixtures. He has participated in both of Napoli's Serie A matches this season, including a substitution during a 2-1 defeat to Como prior to the announcement of his condition.

McTominay joined Napoli from Manchester United in 2024 and had a standout season, winning the Serie A MVP award in 2025. He has earned 73 caps for Scotland, scoring 15 goals.

His absence will impact Scotland's campaign, which begins on September 21, as they face Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia. Sebastien Pocognoli will take charge of Scotland for the first time after replacing Steve Clarke as head coach.
