SEC to Launch National Savings Scheme with Tax Benefits

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to introduce a National Savings Scheme designed to provide every Nigerian with an opportunity to save, with investments supported by tax incentives. Dr Emomotimi Agama, the SEC Director-General, announced this initiative during a strategic partnership meeting with the Presidency in Abuja, ahead of the Capital Market Conversation scheduled for October 19, 2026, at the Presidential Villa.

Agama described the scheme as an inclusion tool, stating that tax incentives would align with the Federal Government’s fiscal reforms, allowing low-income earners to have more disposable income for savings and investments. Dr Nurudeen Abubakar Zauro, Technical Adviser to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion, emphasized that financial inclusion extends beyond account opening to access to essential financial services.

The upcoming conversation will focus on investment inclusion and mobilizing savings, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to endorse the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 during the event.
