South East Development Commission Unveils Vision 2050 Development Plan for Region

The South East Development Commission (SEDC) has introduced its Vision 2050 development plan for the South-East region, commencing with stakeholder forums in Enugu. Established by President Bola Tinubu, the SEDC aims to create a comprehensive and sustainable master plan to guide economic and infrastructural transformation in the region over the next few decades.

The SEDC's Managing Director, Mike Okoy, highlighted the importance of engaging with federal agencies, legislative bodies, and ensuring gender inclusivity in the region's development efforts. The SEDC's strategic roadmap involves collaborating with over 250 federal agencies, aligning political and budgetary support, and addressing long-standing ecological and infrastructural issues post-civil war.

The commission plans to ensure at least 30-40% female participation in future engagements to support women-driven economic activities. The SEDC's team, established less than two years ago, is laying a solid foundation for visible regional projects like road reconstruction and ecological rehabilitation to achieve the 2050 development targets.
