Senate Confirms Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate confirmed Professor Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance following a nearly three-hour questioning session that spanned various economic and financial matters. During the confirmation hearing, Oyedele presented several strategies aimed at stabilizing government revenue, improving contractor payment processes, and broadening Nigeria's revenue base to reduce reliance on crude oil.

He proposed the forward sale of crude oil to mitigate price volatility and ensure predictable fuel prices for citizens. Oyedele also highlighted the importance of awarding contracts based on available funds to prevent trust deficits and suggested that Nigeria's budget execution must be realistic, particularly concerning capital expenditures.

He noted that nearly half of Nigeria's budget is currently financed by a deficit, which requires urgent attention to revenue generation. Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Oyedele's expertise and suitability for the role, commending President Bola Tinubu for the appointment.
