Senate Issues Ultimatum to CBN, NDDC, NUPRC Over Audit

On Monday, the Senate Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Senator Ibrahim Dankwabo from Gombe North, issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Central Bank of Nigeria, Niger Delta Development Commission, and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. This ultimatum was in response to their failure to appear before the committee concerning the 2021-2023 NEITI Audit Reports on the oil and gas sector.

The public hearing, which was scheduled to last three weeks, faced a setback as none of the invited agencies attended, including NEITI, which authored the reports. Senator Dankwabo announced that the rescheduled appearance is set for Thursday, August 6, 2026, warning that non-compliance would lead to constitutional sanctions.

Senator Babangida Hussaini urged the committee to invoke constitutional provisions against the absentees, while Senator Patrick Ndubueze called for immediate sanctions without a second chance, emphasizing the seriousness of the agencies' absence.
