Senate Demands FG Explain Unpaid Contractor Debts in One Week

The Nigerian Senate has mandated the Federal Government to provide an explanation within one week regarding the unpaid debts owed to contractors. This decision was made during a plenary session where a six-member committee was established to engage with the Ministry of Finance.

The committee, chaired by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, includes members such as Sani Musa, Adetokunbo Abiru, Kawu Sumaila, Abubakar Sani Bello, Isah Jibrin, and Abdullahi Yahaya. The Senate's directive aims to clarify the government's efforts to reimburse contractors involved in capital projects across the country.

The committee is expected to report on the status of the debts and measures taken by the government to address the issue, which has raised concerns about delays in project delivery and increased costs. The Senate emphasizes the need for prompt payment to stimulate economic activity and ensure the completion of infrastructure projects nationwide.
