Senate Withdraws Arrest Warrant Against Kyari Amid Dispute

The Nigerian Senate retracted an arrest warrant against Kyari during a session focused on investigating financial discrepancies amounting to N2.10 trillion related to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The committee's proceedings were marked by heated exchanges, particularly between Senator Adam Oshiomhole and Umar Ajiya, the former Chief Financial Officer of NNPCL.

Ajiya rejected claims of missing funds, arguing that the N210 trillion figure cited was unaccounted for, exceeding N54.5 trillion in total revenue generated during the review period. Opeyemi Bamidele raised a motion asserting that the Senate committee lacked the authority to issue arrest warrants, which is solely the prerogative of the Senate President.

Following this, Senate President Godswill Akpabio nullified the arrest warrant against Kyari, distancing the Senate from Oshiomhole's remarks, which were deemed unparliamentary. The session became contentious as Oshiomhole defended his comments regarding NNPCL.
