Tinubu Launches Security Framework for 2027 Elections

On September 22, 2026, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the 6th Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026) in Owerri, Imo State, aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the 2027 general elections. Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu underscored the federal government's commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) through training, technology, and operational logistics.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, presented a 6-pillar framework for the NPF's election-security roadmap, which includes strengthened intelligence systems, intensive training, inter-agency coordination, effective communication, community partnerships, and neutrality. The conference coincided with the International Day of Peace, emphasizing the need for professionalism and public trust.

The IGP announced that an official public election complaints line would be launched on October 12, 2026, and warned against electoral violence and misconduct by police officers. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the President of the Senate and the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs.
