Seplat Energy Calls for Gas Investment to Boost Nigeria's Economy

At the Gas Investment Forum (GIF) 2026 held in Lagos, Seplat Energy Plc's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Effiong Okon, urged for heightened investment in Nigeria's gas value chain to fully utilize the country's over 215 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves. Okon, represented by the Director of Gas & New Energy, Mr. Okechukwu Mba, stated that energy poverty affects approximately 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the importance of converting gas reserves into economic growth and energy access.
He praised the federal government's initiatives to improve investment conditions, including addressing legacy debts in the gas-to-power value chain and welcomed recent Final Investment Decisions on major energy projects. Okon noted the significance of the Obiafu-Oben-Obtikom (OB3) gas pipeline and the role of the Petroleum Industry Act in fostering a transparent investment environment.
Seplat has made substantial investments in gas infrastructure, including the 375 MMscfd Oben Gas Plant, the 90 MMscfd Sapele Gas Plant, and the 300 MMscfd ANOH Gas Plant.
