Shari'ah Council Denies Prayer Call Against INEC Chairman

The Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, represented by Nafiu Baba Ahmad, issued a statement on Monday in Kaduna, refuting a viral report that called for Muslims to pray for the removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan.

The council described the report as misleading and unsubstantiated, attributing it to anonymous and unofficial sources. It emphasized that at no time did the council issue a statement calling for such prayers or the removal of the INEC chairman.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting justice, equity, and peace, distancing itself from any partisan political controversies. It warned against the spread of false information that could create unnecessary tension and urged the public, particularly the Muslim community, to disregard the misleading claims.

The council reiterated its dedication to remaining above partisan interests and fostering a society where citizens can practice their religion freely.
