Shettima Represents Tinubu at AU Summit in Ethiopia

Kashim Shettima, the Vice President of Nigeria, arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, scheduled for February 14-15, 2026. This information was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by Stanlei Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, Shettima was welcomed by Ethiopia's Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belet Mola, and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegay. Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, was also present, along with other officials.

The theme of this year's summit is "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063," focusing on sustainable water management and improved sanitation systems across the continent. Shettima is expected to participate in high-level side events and bilateral meetings to strengthen Nigeria's diplomatic and economic partnerships in Africa.

Ambassador Tuggar noted that Nigeria has already recorded gains in its participation in the summit.
