Shettima Advocates $410 Billion Investment for Green Energy

Vice President Kashim Shettima called for urgent policy reforms and stronger public-private partnerships to attract both domestic and foreign investments into Nigeria’s green infrastructure. Speaking at the second edition of the Decarbonising Infrastructure in Nigeria (DIN) Summit in Abuja, he stated that Nigeria requires approximately $410 billion in additional investment by 2060 to achieve its net-zero pathway.
Represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, Shettima highlighted that while government financing is crucial, it cannot cover all capital needs for Nigeria's long-term energy and infrastructure goals. He emphasized the necessity of involving the private sector, development finance institutions, and domestic financial institutions.
The summit, organized by the Office of the Vice President with support from the National Council on Climate Change and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, focused on de-risking green infrastructure investment. Shettima pointed out that the main challenge lies in converting ideas and policies into viable projects that investors can finance and implement.
