NSC Directs MSC to Suspend New Tariff for Importers

The Nigerian Shipper Council (NSC) has reiterated its directive to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) to suspend the implementation of its newly introduced tariff, as stated in a letter dated March 23, 2026. The council emphasized the need to revert to the old tariff regime until the outcome of ongoing discussions with stakeholders.

This decision aims to protect the interests of Nigerian importers and ensure they are not subjected to arbitrary charges. The letter, signed by Margaret Ogbonnah on behalf of the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the council, PiU Akutah, requests that MSC maintain the current tariff regime until a stakeholder meeting can be convened to deliberate on the proposed charges that may impact port users.

The NSC has formally requested the suspension of the current tariff until this meeting occurs.
