Governors Aim to Revive Nigeria's Textile Industry

Six Nigerian governors committed to revitalizing the country's textile industry after visiting the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) in the Republic of Benin. The delegation, which included Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal, Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Katsina Governor Dikko Radda, and Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi, joined Vice President Kashim Shettima for the inspection.

This visit is part of President Bola Tinubu's administration's efforts to establish agro-industrial processing hubs and boost domestic manufacturing. The governors noted that the GDIZ model showcased the importance of government policies, infrastructure, and private investment in connecting farmers with processors, reducing raw commodity exports, and creating jobs.

AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, described the visit as a peer-learning mission to avoid costly mistakes. The governors expressed optimism about implementing similar projects in Nigeria, particularly in their respective states, to enhance agricultural value chains and create sustainable jobs.
