Sokoto Youth Emancipation Front Supports INEC Nominee

The Sokoto Youth Emancipation Front (SYEF) has defended the nomination of Prof. Mustapha Ahmed Aliyu as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against objections from Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State. Dan’iya, through his media aide Aminu Abdullahi, urged President Bola Tinubu to withdraw Aliyu’s nomination, which was announced on 16th October 2026, citing alleged political affiliations and family ties to Sokoto State governor Ahmed Aliyu.
In response, SYEF spokesperson Comrade Ahmed Adamu described the objection as politically motivated and an attempt to politicize the nomination. Adamu stated that the nominee's relationship with the governor should not solely determine his eligibility.
SYEF emphasized that the Senate screening process is the appropriate constitutional avenue for assessing the nominee and urged both the president and the Senate to allow this process to occur without yielding to political pressure.
