South Africa Makes World Cup History with 1-0 Win

On Wednesday, South Africa's national football team, Bafana Bafana, achieved a historic milestone by defeating South Korea 1-0, thereby advancing to the World Cup knockout round for the first time. This victory came as a remarkable turnaround following their dismal opening match, where they lost 2-0 to Mexico.

The decisive goal was scored by Thapelo Maseko in the 63rd minute, following a cross from Tshepang Moremi. South Africa's coach, Hugo Broos, expressed the difficulty of encapsulating the team's achievement in words, highlighting the significance of the victory.

South Korea's coach, Hong Myung-bo, made the controversial decision to leave captain Son Heung-min, regarded as Asia's greatest player, out of the starting lineup. The match saw South Africa quickly settle into the game, demonstrating hunger and adventurous play.

With this win, South Africa is set to face co-host Canada on June 28, while South Korea finished second in their group.
