Nigerian High Commissioner Alleges Police Involvement in Killings

Femi Fani-Kayode, the Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, has raised serious allegations against the South African police and the South African Defence Force, claiming they are masterminding the killings of Nigerians in the country. In a statement, he condemned the ongoing xenophobic attacks, revealing that over 100 Nigerians have been killed in South Africa in the past four years, with 30 of those deaths attributed to the police and military.

He cited the recent murders of Bishop Michael Taiwo Fakunle on September 4 and Mr. James Uchechukwu Nwankwo on September 5, both in Johannesburg, as part of a disturbing trend. Fani-Kayode expressed his shock at the lack of arrests or justice for these crimes, stating that not a single person has been prosecuted for the killings.

He called on the South African government to take action to protect Nigerian nationals and criticized the issuance of a new deadline for African nationals to leave South Africa by September 30, which he described as a continuation of xenophobic threats.
