South Africa Sports Minister Opposes Nigeria's 2026 World Cup Participation

South Africa's Sports Minister, Gayton McKenzie, openly stated his disapproval of Nigeria's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup following controversies during the qualifiers. Nigeria had protested against South Africa for fielding ineligible players during the qualifiers.

Despite setbacks, South Africa's team managed to top the group, leaving Nigeria just one point behind. McKenzie's comments stemmed from bitterness after Nigeria missed out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana had already secured their place in the 2026 tournament. The road to the 2026 World Cup will involve playoffs in November 2025 and March 2026.
