Sowore, Ekiti Police Give Conflicting Accounts of Restaurant Incident

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and Ekiti State Police Command dispute whether an attack in Ado-Ekiti was violent or minor.

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, and authorities in Ekiti State have offered starkly contrasting narratives regarding Friday's incident in Ado-Ekiti. Law enforcement described it as a restaurant altercation where Sowore sustained minor injuries before being rescued and taken to the Police Hospital.

Sowore disputed this characterization entirely, framing the episode as a violent assault targeting himself and associates, and charging that police downplayed what actually transpired. According to Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ekiti State, operatives deployed swiftly upon learning of a disturbance at a dining establishment near Dalimore.

Officers successfully extracted Sowore from the location, police officials reported. Commissioner Falade Adegoroye Michael personally attended the scene.

An inquiry has been opened to identify individuals involved in the confrontation. Sowore's account assigned culpability far beyond restaurant-goers.

Through posts on social media containing photographic and video material, he claimed operatives originating from the Ekiti Government House conducted the assault and that the Department of State Services furnished tracking capabilities alongside operational assistance. He maintained that characterizing the violence as minor downplayed both the brutality and organization behind it.

Documentation of wounds sustained by Sowore accompanied his statements. Isaac Fayose, sibling of former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose and political commentator, issued remarks condemning the episode.

He called upon Sowore to align with opposition figures such as Peter Obi in advance of the 2027 electoral cycle. Fayose contended that individual opposition leaders lack the capacity to effectively resist governmental power when working separately.

The divergence between police description and Sowore's account persists as inquiry proceeds.
