Stakeholders Advocate for Safe Migration Practices in Abuja

At a community town hall meeting on migration held on Monday in Abuja, stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and community leaders, were called upon to enhance efforts in promoting safe, regular, and informed migration. The meeting was organized by ActionAid Nigeria in collaboration with CSOnetMADE and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).

Ambassador Catherine Udida, Director of Migrant Affairs at NCFRMI, represented Honourable Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, the Commissioner. She highlighted the dual nature of migration, which can provide opportunities for employment and education but also poses challenges such as irregular migration and human trafficking.

Udida stressed the need for young people to access reliable information to make informed migration decisions and encouraged community discussions about migration aspirations. She called for traditional rulers and community leaders to facilitate these conversations and ensure that migrants and returnees share their experiences to improve migration practices.
