Stakeholders Push for Gender-Responsive SGBV Solutions in Nigeria

On October 7, stakeholders from security institutions, government agencies, civil society, diplomatic missions, and development partners convened in Abuja for a National Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue organized by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and the Transparency International Chapter in Nigeria (TI-Nigeria), with support from the Government of Ireland. The dialogue, themed “Strengthening Human Rights-Centred and Gender-Responsive Approaches to SGBV in Defence and Security Operations in Nigeria,” was led by Comrade Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), Executive Director of CISLAC/TI-Nigeria.

He stressed that the effectiveness of security institutions should encompass more than operational capacity, highlighting SGBV as a critical issue affecting various groups. Rafsanjani called for the establishment of trustworthy reporting mechanisms and the integration of gender considerations in all aspects of security operations.

SP Awu Fidelis Jonah, representing IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to preventing SGBV and enhancing accountability within its operations.
