Germany, Australia, ASF France Call for Action Against Death Penalty in Nigeria

Germany, Australia, and ASF France are pressing for immediate action against the death penalty in Nigeria after President Bola Tinubu commuted seven death row inmates to life imprisonment as part of a recent presidential pardon that saw 175 individuals granted clemency. The call for action was made during a screening of the movie "Just Mercy" to mark the 2025 World Day Against the Death Penalty in Abuja.

The German Ambassador to Nigeria emphasized the global movement against the death penalty, citing its irreversibility and potential for wrongful convictions. ASF France reiterated its commitment to providing legal assistance in Nigeria, with the country director urging empathy and reflection on the human cost of justice.
