Ubani Advocates Local Government Control of Security

Mondai Ubani, the chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association Electoral Committee, asserted that Nigeria's security situation would improve if local governments were empowered to manage security. In an interview on Thursday, he responded to a question regarding a recent Senate address that highlighted worsening insecurity in Nigeria.

Ubani noted that local governments are familiar with every entry and exit point in their areas, which positions them to work effectively with state security agencies to protect their communities. He advocated for the establishment of state police, arguing that the current centralized police system has failed to adequately protect lives and property.

Ubani commended the administration of the 10th National Assembly for taking a historic step towards decentralizing Nigeria's police system, which he believes will strengthen security across the nation.
