Osun Assembly Approves State Police Constitutional Amendment

The Osun State House of Assembly has made history by approving a proposed constitutional amendment aimed at establishing state police structures, becoming the first state to do so following the National Assembly's transmission of the document to all 36 state Houses of Assembly. During a plenary session on Tuesday, lawmakers unanimously approved the amendment after thorough deliberations.

Speaker Adewale Egbedun read a letter from the National Assembly requesting state Houses of Assembly to consider and approve the amendment. Lawmakers, including Lawrence Adeoti from Ife South State Constituency and Taofeek Olayiwola from Ede South State Constituency, expressed strong support, emphasizing that state police would significantly enhance security across Nigeria.

Other contributors, such as Adewumi Adeyemi from Obokun State Constituency and Jeremiah Awoyeye from Ife Central State Constituency, described the move as timely and beneficial for local security. The motion to support the amendment was moved by Majority Leader Babajide Kofoworola from Ede North State Constituency and seconded by Tajudeen Adeyemi from Ifelodun State Constituency.
