Strategic Partnerships Essential for Livestock Reform in Nigeria

On May 6, 2026, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development, stated that strategic partnerships are crucial for achieving sustainable reforms in Nigeria's livestock sector. He received a delegation from the UK Fund Spring Programme, led by Dr.

Ukoha Ukiwo, at the Ministry's headquarters in Abuja. Maiha commended the programme for its timely technical assistance, which has catalyzed stability and delivered significant gains in the sector.

He acknowledged the programme's contribution to peacebuilding in conflict-affected areas, which directly enhances productivity within the livestock sector. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to long-term partnerships and the expansion of collaborative efforts, including initiatives focused on peace and security, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building.

The Spring Programme's interventions aim to develop a livestock data system and implement a traceability pilot tagging programme across selected states, with a focus on empowering women and youth within the livestock ecosystem.
