Sukurat Oladipo Named Best Defender in Serie A Women

Sukurat Oladipo, a 21-year-old defender for AS Roma Women, has been recognized as the Best Defender in Italy's Serie A Women for the 2025/26 season. This accolade comes shortly after she helped her team secure the Serie A title, marking Roma's third league crown in four seasons.

Oladipo, who previously played for FC Robo Queens, joined AS Roma during the 2025 winter transfer window on a half-year deal that extends until June 30, 2027. Throughout the season, she featured in 18 Serie A matches, starting 15, and played a total of 1,398 minutes, contributing to 11 clean sheets.

Her performance included 27 interceptions, 27 successful tackles, 70 clearances, and 104 ball recoveries. Oladipo expressed her gratitude for the support from fans, coaches, and teammates, emphasizing the significance of this achievement for her career and for Nigerian players in European women's football.

Alongside compatriot Rinsola Babajid, she made history as the first Nigerian international to lift the Italian women's top-flight league title.
