Sultanate Council Calls Muslims to Observe New Moon

The Sultanate Council, Sokoto State Chapter, has issued a statement urging Muslims to observe the new moon of Rabi’ul Awwal 1448 AH on Thursday, August 13, 2026, which corresponds to the 29th day of Safar 1448 AH. The statement, dated August 12 and signed by Prof.

Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, instructs Muslims across Nigeria to actively search for the crescent moon and report any sightings to the appropriate traditional authorities. The council emphasized that those who sight the crescent should inform their nearest district or village head, who will then communicate the sighting to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

The council concluded the statement with a prayer for divine assistance in fulfilling this religious duty.
