Sultan Declares March 20, 2026, as Eid-el-Fitr

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, officially declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the first day of Shawwal, marking the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr. This announcement was made following the advisory from the Sultan Council Sokoto and the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, which confirmed that there were no credible reports of the Shawwal moon being sighted on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Consequently, Thursday, March 19, 2026, will be the 30th day of Ramadan 1447 AH. The Sultan congratulated Muslims on successfully completing Ramadan and urged the Muslim community to continue prayers for peace and development in the nation.

Additionally, Kaduna State Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude for the people's dedication during Ramadan and highlighted various state initiatives aimed at improving the economy and security. The Kaduna State Police Command also issued a security advisory to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
