Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made the decision to drop goalkeeper Maduka Okoye from the matchday squad ahead of the fixture against Madagascar. Okoye arrived at the Nigeria camp in Ikot-Ekpene several days late, missing the expected return deadline of Tuesday evening after playing for Udinese on Saturday.

He reported to camp on Friday morning, which was well past the deadline set for players returning from club duty. During his absence, Okoye was seen attending Milan Week and was photographed with American artist Cardi B.

Chelle's decision to exclude Okoye was not solely based on his individual case but served as a warning to the entire squad about the consequences of returning late from club commitments. As a result, Arthur Okonkwo is expected to start in goal for the match, with the coach emphasizing the importance of adhering to return dates for players.
