Supreme Court Restores Forfeiture of Emefiele's Assets

On a Friday, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, unanimously restored the final forfeiture of assets linked to former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele. This ruling overturned a previous judgment by the Appeal Court that had nullified the forfeiture order issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The Supreme Court upheld the appeal from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which sought to reinstate the original forfeiture order. The assets, valued at approximately $2.045 million, include two share certificates belonging to Queensdorf Global Fund Limited and several high-value properties in Lagos and Delta State.

The properties affected include duplexes and a bungalow in Ikoyi, among others. The Supreme Court's decision effectively ends Emefiele's legal battle over the ownership of these assets, affirming the federal government's right to retain them due to their connection to economic and financial crimes.
