Sweden Sets Financial Requirements for Residence Permits

The Swedish government has specified the minimum financial requirement for foreign nationals seeking a residence permit. Applicants must demonstrate financial self-sufficiency by showing proof of at least SEK 13,000 (approximately N1,813,869) for each month of their intended stay.

For instance, an individual applying for a six-month residence permit would need to prove access to at least SEK 78,000, roughly N10.9 million, to be considered for approval. Additionally, applicants are required to have sufficient funds to cover the cost of a return trip to their home country, which is a separate requirement from the monthly living threshold.

The government emphasizes that financial independence is a core condition for residency, and applicants unable to show they can sustain themselves without public resources are unlikely to meet the approval threshold.
