Tanzania's Vice President Nchimbi Resigns Amid Criticism

Emmanuel John Nchimbi, the Vice President of Tanzania, will leave office on September 4, having served since November of the previous year. His resignation follows criticism from members of the ruling party regarding his remarks about the constitution, which they deemed unnecessary.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) has decided to expel Nchimbi from the party, although the specific conduct that violated party rules was not disclosed. Nchimbi had previously called on Tanzanians to advocate for a new constitution.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who won the presidential election last year with nearly 98% of the vote, is overseeing this transition. The new Vice President will be nominated and sworn in after parliamentary approval.
