Taraba Agency Boss Clarifies Salary Cuts for Sweepers

Hon. Illiya Kefa, the chairman of the Taraba State Environment Sanitation Agency, stated that recent salary reductions for street sweepers were a decision made internally by the agency and not directed by Governor Agbu Kefa.

This decision was necessary to sustain operations amid financial obligations and a growing workforce across the state's 16 local government areas. The agency manages a significant number of personnel, including coordinators, supervisors, and casual workers engaged in sanitation activities.

Current salaries for local government coordinators range from ₦100,000 to ₦200,000, while supervisors earn a minimum of ₦50,000 monthly. The agency employs around 100 casual workers, spending approximately ₦5 million daily on their welfare.

Kefa emphasized that these measures aim to ensure the continuity of sanitation services without disruption, addressing public concerns regarding the welfare of low-income workers amidst rising economic challenges.
