FIRS Denies Politicizing Tax Collection, Emphasizes Multi-Channel System

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Nigeria has denied allegations of politicizing tax collection, stressing the use of a multi-channel system involving various payment solutions like Quickteller, Remita, and Flutterwave. A statement by Aderonke Atoyebi, a technical assistant to the FIRS Chairman, highlighted that no private entity has a monopoly on revenue collection.

Atoyebi emphasized transparency in onboarding Payment Service Providers (PSSPs) and urged political actors to avoid mischaracterizing routine administrative processes to prevent unnecessary alarm. The FIRS remains committed to professionalism and transparency in tax administration.
