Shettima: New Tax Reforms to Reduce Poverty in Nigeria

Vice President Kashim Shettima announced that the implementation of new tax reforms in Nigeria is aimed at easing the financial burden on small businesses and reducing poverty among low-income earners. Speaking during an interfaith breakfast for Ramadan at the State House, Shettima expressed deep concern over the challenges faced by Nigerians and highlighted the government's commitment to introducing policies that lift people out of poverty without imposing additional financial pressures.

He dismissed claims from political critics that the tax reforms are designed to impoverish the poor, asserting that such views are misguided. Shettima emphasized the importance of educating the public about the realities of the reforms.

He also pointed out ongoing economic reforms, including an increase in Nigeria's foreign exchange reserves, the unification of the exchange rate, and the removal of subsidies that benefit a select few individuals. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking bold steps to address long-standing economic issues that previous administrations had avoided.
